The Player’s Edge Tennis School mission is to empower an individual through tennis, fitness, and nutrition and to provide opportunities for developmental growth.

We believe that tennis is a vehicle that will provide individuals with skills and knowledge that they can use in all aspects of life. We are committed to guide our players through their journey and we will strive to inspire confidence and joy

Patrick Tran
Patrick worked in venture banking and telecom as an analyst, operations manager, and corporate financial analyst.  He also worked and contributed in web start-up, e-commerce, and in the beauty industry before becoming a tennis coach.  He graduated with a bachelor in finance. Patrick competed in high school and in Junior college at Grossmont College. 

Coaching was accidental but Patrick became dedicated in training juniors to fully maximize their potential.  He is both certified by the USPTA and PTR.  Patrick started at CVT and progressed to the position of Junior Program Director.  A few of his achievements at CVT include:

  • Built an extensive junior program at CVT (Carmel Valley Tennis) expanding the program from 3 to 7 Junior levels including a high performance program with players ranked at the sectional and national levels.
  • Started Junior Team Tennis expanding the program to 9 teams with numerous teams advancing and winning sectionals
  • Started a summer ball kids program with World Team Tennis

Since 2006, Patrick has developed players into top Varsity Girls & Boys at TPHS, CCA, Westview and other top school in SD.   He has worked as a private coach to over 50 nationally and sectionally ranked players with several players eventually competing at the collegiate and professional level.

Patrick co-founded Player’s Edge Tennis School in 2018 with Marc Assaraf.

Marc Assaraf

Marc has more than 40 years of experience as an International Teacher and Coach. Marc believes in his proven ability to motivate players to reach their potential. He attributes some of his success to being a graduate of both traditional and sport science schools of teaching. He is known as a strong disciplinarian and promoter of superior fitness while he believes strongly in the teamwork concept.

Marc has coached numerous players in the top 100 ATP, WTA, ITF and has served as national coach for Tennis Canada. He has received 1 Coaching Excellence Awards from Tennis Canada and was the Maccabi Canada national coach in Israel.  Marc has developed top Canadian juniors who held Canadian and world ranking including 2 in the top 10. Marc personally coached and placed numerous players with tennis scholarships to universities such as UCLA, University of Texas El Paso, North Carolina, Boston College, Queens University, and Stanford.

Marc coached Peter Polansky (ATP #135), Carol Zhao (2013 winner of Australian open junior doubles player, French open S/F ) and #1 singles player ITA Brandon Schnur. 

Marc also served as Director, Founder of Players Edge Tennis Academy in Toronto, Canada from 2001 until 2008.   In 2016 Marc started ASSARAF TENNIS CONSULTING in San Diego at the San Diego Jewish Academy and in 2018 he co-founded Player’s Edge Tennis School in San Diego, CA.

Polina Goloputova – ROG Program Head Coach

Polina is a former D1 player at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and was a scholar athlete who made the Dean’s List & the A.D. Honor Roll in her senior year.  As a junior, she achieved a No. 6 ranking in Kazakhstan in the U18 division and competed as an ITF/WTA player from Astana, Kazakhstan. 

Coach Polina has worked with junior players from the ROG level to advanced and pro players.  She’s also experienced in conducting adult clinics and lessons.  Polina attained a B.S. degree in Exercise Science and will be leading Player’s edge strength and conditioning training.  Polina is fluent English and Russian.
